Ashton is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, the Board of Healthcare Funders and the Golden Key International Honour Society. She is also qualified in Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (cum laude), which enabled her passion for psychology and animals to overlap.
340 On Main is a tranquil environment from which Ashton operates her private practice for outpatient therapy. In addition, she works on call at a local hospital.
In terms of her fees, she is contracted to all medical aids and can claim directly on your behalf at medical aid rates. Alternatively, she offers a cash discount.
Ashton has a special interest in working with: adolescents, adults, couples and families. She tailors each session to her client’s presenting problem and needs. Her work includes, but is not limited to: depression; bipolar; anxiety; bereavement and grief; eating disorders; work-related stress and burn out; interpersonal relationship problems (couples and family); fine tuning effective communication skills; coping skills; trauma and crisis; adjustment issues; assertiveness and boundary setting training; gender and sexuality related concerns; self-esteem and self-confidence building; somatic complaints (physical ailments that result from emotional distress); as well as wanting to understand oneself better and on a deeper level.
Ashton believes that the therapeutic relationship enables meaningful change. Ashton provides her clients with a safe and trusting space in order to enable: self-exploration; self-understanding; self-growth; and to relieve psychological distress. She favours an Interactional Pattern Analysis approach. This enables one to understand the ineffective ways of interacting that can then be changed to achieve optimal positive ways of relating with the self, and others. Furthermore she can assist with the diagnosis of mental disorders and can provide the client with an appropriate referral to trusted psychiatrists.
