What is Pilates?
What is Pilates?
Pilates is an integrated approach to exercise that was pioneered by a man called Joseph Pilates. Born with many ailments as a child he grew determined to strengthen his body not just in the physical sense but as a whole. There are many teaching and training methods in Pilates today but ultimately Pilates aims to connect mind and body through a series of exercises that focus on:
Correct breathing patterns
Alignment of the pelvis, ribcage, shoulder girdle and head
Improve body awareness
Stability and control
Axial elongation of the spine.
Reasons to do Pilates
Improves self confidence
Changes your body shape
Tones your body as a whole
Enhances your mood
Lengthens and strengthens muscles
Protects your lower back
Flexible form of training
